- I am sorry to let you know that my mom Jopie Drost passed away this afternoon. She had become rather sick with an infection and went to be with the Lord this afternoon. We as a family would like to thank you and your family for all that you have done for us and for my
mother. Cathrine Drost.
April 30
2008 - Aunt Tiny has been taken into the closed department of the nursery home De Hoekstee in Ommen.
Quite a change for all of us children, but it feels better, although sometimes
it feels the opposite. But we have to accept that it was not possible any longer
to let her living alone at home. Her dementia rapidly has worsened recently. She
does not like this situation, but time will tell this is her home and the
Rozenheim no more. (Henk en Karlina)

March 20 2008 around 11.00 a.m aunt Riek Drost-Hogenkamp passed away.
Some weeks ago she fell from her chair, and after that gradually she had more
pain. After severe complaints she was taken to the hospital. At first, nothing
was found, but later it turned out that she had had a bleeding in het stomach. A
second bleeding proved to be fatal. During the last days she was surrounded
by her children. The funeral was in Dedemsvaart at Tuesday March 25. It was
attended by all of her children. An abbreviated version of the memorial which was
read, has been published in the Dedemsvaartse Kerkblad of May 2008. The
English version is to be found on family-page Herman.

January 4 2008 - Aunt Mien was taken to the hospital
at Den Helder at Dec 10 2007 because of a bleeding in the belly. Her condition
was complicated by hallucinations and a deminished sense of time. In the
hospital (see picture, dec 2007) she recovered rather quickly.
Thursday
Jan 3 2008 she was brought to Nursery Home Texel, Hollewal 2, 1791GH den Burg. +Ph.

the Gemini Hospital at Den Helder. She is home again now.
July 16 2007 - After a period of illness our aunt Jeanette died in her home at
Langebaan, South Africa. As she was already in a coma, her death was also a kind
of relieve. As uncle Sjoerd put it in the telephone call we had: "For all
of us there is a time to go". That's wise. Before we go, we have to make
the best out of it.
May 26 2007 - Sweet family, Thanks for all kind words, cards and flowers. We
did enjoy the day ourselves as well. We had a nice Drost Day. Everything was
fine. 40 people were sure to come, but at last 80 people joined in!
The fish for dinner turned out to be supplied and prepaired almost for free,
so we can spend more than € 250 on charity goals in Rumania and Cameroon, the
last being a project that we organize together with schools of the county Noord
Holland. Thanks again

The
easiest way of travelling to Holland: book a flight to Amsterdam. Martin
Vlaming, (webmaster of this site) lives with his family right in the centre
of old Amsterdam. Ph +31201239132 / +31641535753. If necessary, he can pick you up at Schiphol
Airport, provide you a pleasant shelter in Amsterdam. Next morning, he'll drop
you at the Central Station where a train takes you to Den Helder. From that
station there's a direct bus connection to the island ferry. The ferry has a
regular departure schedule once an hour. For public transport on the island,
take the bus to De Cocksdorp via Oosterend. If you tell the driver that
you have to be at Veelust, and he's a good guy, he stops right there. He opens
the door of the bus and wishes you a happy time over there.

On september 11 2006 Aunt Tiny celebrated het 80th birthday. The family was
invited to come and join the party, that was in 't Centrum at Dedemsvaart. As
far as possible children, grandchildren and other familymembers had gathered
there. Also the editor of the website did join the party, and had a taste of the
atmosphere of this remarkable happening. A small anthology here. Top: Aunt Tiny
and Ina, on the right Aunt Mien and Henk Vlaming, Aunt Jantje and Aunt Rolien.
Below: Peter, and the family of Arnold Jr. It was a happy reunion with much
cheering.
Alas, my old camera doesn't produce very clear pictures, so we have
to do with this. Click on the pic for a bigger view.

To you, O living God of pow'r and might.
Our father, Jan Drost
died at february 10 2006. The funeral took place in a private meeting at february
16.
We have called all dad's living sisters and invited them for the funeral.
Aunt Jantje, Simon and Gerry Hiemstra and aunt Roelien and Marion Westerink have
attended Jan's last day.
Our small family and the aunts and cousins enjoyed a nice day, commemorating
Jan. Aunt Jeanette from South Africa had a telephone chat with Karin. Aunt
Ida could not attend the funeral because of Uncle Wim's back-aches. Aunt Mien
decided not to go because it would be physically too hard for her.

June 5 2004, Aunt Mien celebrated her birthday party. She got 86 at Oct 11 last
year, but didn't feel strong enough to celebrate it then. Shortly after that,
Canadian family from the Rudolph-branche (Johan and Edward) paid her a visit,
and she was almost flabbergasted that they even came to Texel (such an outskirt
of the planet) for that. So that's really worth while...
May 18 2004. Last weekend Uncle Roelof died. Roelof had been ill for a long
time, and in the course of the last years he longed to die. By his sister
Rolien he is characterised as a Gentleman. His burial is at thursday May 20.
March 21 2004. Aunt Nell, Uncle Roelof's wife, has moved to a new home. Her
adress is now:

Drost Family. You can open it here,
or on the home page of this site
From the editor. The good wishes for 2004 have been responded on a
world-wide scale. From the Netherlands, Canada, South Africa, and Australia.
That gave me some inspiration to fresh up the website a bit. In the colors as
it's now, there's something of the old letter by airmail. Anyway, that's what ik
looks like.
Aunt Mien is back in her
home since september 23. The phone number is +31222-322725
The
Canadian reunion of july 19 this year has been very succesful. It was
organised by uncle Douwe Jan Boersma. Wayne Boersma reports about it:
We had our Drost reunion this past weekend, and everyone loved
it. It was sure nice to see familiar faces, but also the new ones that I had
never met before.
Now there is a picture of the family, with all the Canadian members.
You can watch it as a pop-up. For that, Click here Wayne Boersma sent this picture, so now we have a fairly good
idea about the Canadian family. It looks like the weather is pretty good.
The Dutch
Drost-Reunion of june 14
De The reunion was organised by Ina Dijkhof, Jaap Westerink, and Simon
Hiemstra. It was held at the farm of Simon Drost HermanSn, 16e wijk 22.

On the pic aunt Riek, aunt Jantje, and aunt Rolien. They're having a nice
chat. There was coffee, and a kind of muffins with a gordious taste. Later on,
there was a barbecue and a plenty of beverage. There was a
laptop with the website, and a review about uncle Henk. With his digital camera,
Jaap Westerink took 49 pics. Some of it will be used for this site. If you like
to to get the pics on CD, or things by mail, please contact Martin Vlaming
or Jaap Westerink. For a pop-up,
